ADA Accommodations
ConGregate takes ADA extremely seriously; and we believe in making as many accommodations as we can. If an accommodation is not a financial hardship on the convention, we will endeavor to find an equitable way to make it work out.
We do have a director (Richard Sarner) who is on the lookout for ways ConGregate is not being accommodating, however, we can always use additional guidance - and are not afraid to hear concerns.
Mobility
ConGregate has taken steps to make sure adequate space is available in the con areas for individuals with mobility needs.
Service Animals
ConGregate is happy to allow service animals into the con spaces, provided they meet Federal requirements (are fully trained and well behaved).
Service animals should not:
- Jump up on other attendees
- Bark frequently throughout the day. If your animal is trained to bark frequently, please contact us ahead of time so we can try to work around that as much as possible.
Financial Hardship
The Federal Government allows organizations to declare financial hardship, if they are unable to meet certain needs. Some of the areas we have had a difficult time working into our small, annual budget include:
- Renting ramps for mobility (mainly this is for getting on stage > other accommodations have been developed), as none are available through the hotels
- ASL interpreters - interpreters get paid for their time, and rightly so. As of now, we have not been able afford those services.
- If someone knows of free/very cheap alternatives for either of these, or some kind of grant, please drop us note. We will definitely look into those options.
